Central Yards: A Taste of Art is a fun and immersive culinary art experience that fuses art, taste, and imagination. Held at the Central Harbourfront Event Space from March 26th to April 5th, it offers a legitimate excuse to indulge in both food and play! The exhibition features ten uniquely themed exhibition halls, each inspired by iconic art movements. These include the conceptual art piece 'A Crisp Banana', the pop balloon dog jelly in an interactive claw machine, and an impressive sunflower photo op, among other exciting installations.
Many visitors are concerned about the quality of the food on offer. In my opinion, the desserts are well-crafted and thoughtfully designed, with the chocolates being the highlight!
As Hong Kong's first immersive culinary art experience, Central Yards: A Taste of Art is truly innovative and memorable. Before entering, visitors are given orange baskets to carry their treats as they explore the ten immersive culinary art experiences. The first stop is the 'Art Explosion!' exhibition hall, which introduces the New Pop Art theme. Visitors can immerse themselves in a playful space filled with colorful balloons and, of course, try their hand at the claw machine. The claw has a good grip, so it's not too difficult to win a pop balloon dog jelly. As for the taste, the mango flavor leans towards a chewy, QQ texture.
The 'Go Bananas!' exhibition hall is a crowd favorite. Responding to the auction of a banana duct-taped to a wall, one wall of the exhibition space features a similar installation, along with a mesmerizing mirror tunnel. Visitors can open the banana barrels and take a banana, but the artist has cleverly designed identical-looking barrels to keep things intriguing and leave it to chance whether you get 'A Crisp Banana'.
Next up is the 'Visual Feast' exhibition area, inspired by surrealism, which transports you to a dreamlike realm. A magnificent table is set with elegant and whimsical decorations. Don't forget to walk to the other end of the table and climb the steps to view the feast from a different perspective and discover the smooth coconut milk pudding 'Treasure in a Box' inspired by Dali's imaginative style.
Local artist, Yuen Ka Yi, also participates in Central Yards: A Taste of Art. The 'Magic Creator' exhibition hall showcases her creations using classic nostalgic toys and everyday electronic components as industrial remnants, along with projection designs. The walls come alive with colorful projections of Hong Kong stories. Here, you can savor duck-shaped chocolates inspired by local nostalgic toys.
Representing modernism, the 'Feel as You Please' exhibition hall blends colors, lights, and geometric elements, offering visitors a chance to taste the natural sweetness and sourness of 'Colorful Ribbons' made from fiber fruits.
The 'Drip Painting' exhibition hall brings the bold and liberated Abstract Expressionism movement to life in a fluid, vibrant installation. Visitors can directly take away colorful, flowing drinks from the installation.
The 'Blue Illusion' exhibition hall immerses visitors in enchanting blue lights and optical illusions, with a humorous touch—the constant sound of roosters crowing—as they enjoy the Op Art-inspired blue eggs in collaboration with Social Goods Modern Bakery.
The 'Blooming Flowers' exhibition hall invites visitors to immerse themselves in Impressionism by offering a tranquil moment amidst a fantastical giant flower garden, along with a delicate focaccia bread to savor.
Inspired by Spatialism, the 'Treasure Pavilion' exhibition hall hides surprises in colorful drawers, challenging visitors to find and unlock the treasure—chocolates.
The final stop of the exhibition is the 'Frogtopia' exhibition hall, created by artist Frog King (Kwok Mang Ho). Visitors are free to play with the exhibits and take photos in his playground, immersing themselves in the creative world of 'Frogtopia'. Crispy and savory Parmesan cheese frog-shaped cookies are also provided.
After the exhibition, visitors can head to the sky bar, Peridot, for a range of limited-edition cocktails and drinks, or to Monocle Café for a coffee experience. Pop-up stores sell lifestyle goods, travel gear, stationery, and more from around the world. Visitors can also purchase two limited-edition coaster sets, books published by TASCHEN, hand-crafted sauces from The Spark of Madness, and chocolates created by artist, designer, and chocolate master Ryan L Foote, whose creations were the 'Treasure' in the 'Treasure Pavilion' exhibition hall.
